Duxbury over Quincy – The offensively challenged Presidents can’t keep up with Duxbury’s high powered offense led by Bobby Maimaron and Devin Demeritt.
BC High over St. John’s Prep – SJP will put up a battle at home on Saturday but the BC High running game behind Connor Cady and Danny Abraham will be the difference as they remain on top of the D1 South standings.
King Phillip over Attleboro – Watch out for Attleboro at home but the Warriors defense is the difference in this game.
Falmouth over Scituate – If you like offense this is the game for you on Friday night as Falmouth looks to outscore a good Scituate team.
Andover over Haverhill – In this huge D1 North showdown EJ Perry and Andover are too much on offense for Haverhill to keep up with.
Newton North over Weymouth – Newton North can clinch the Bay State Carey Division with a win over Weymouth on Saturday and remain in the hunt in the D1 South playoff race.
Catholic Memorial over Malden – CM defense keeps Malden QB Jared Martino in check as the Knights try and improve their standing in D1 South.
Wellesley over Norwood – Wellesley defense too much for the Mustangs.
Natick over Walpole – Could be another defensive game for Walpole but give the edge to Natick with their running game and playing at home.
Let’s take a look back at this weekend’s results as we approach the divisional playoffs. Top ranked Duxbury handed Silver Lake their first loss of the season with a dominating 55-14 final score. Second ranked BC High ran all over Malden Catholic 55-6 and remain the top seed in Division 1 South. Xaverian came from behind against Brockton with a 28-7 final to give head coach Charlie Stevenson his 200th win and to stay in the hunt behind BC High and Newton North in the D1 South playoff standings…. Congratulations to Coach Stevenson! Seventh ranked Dartmouth remained unbeaten by upsetting fourth ranked Bridgewater Raynham by a score of 13-6. Fifth ranked Billerica also remained unbeaten beating North Andover 35-8. Fourteenth ranked Haverhill moved to 4-1 as they upset sixth ranked Central Catholic 21-10. Lexington and QB Sal Frelick overcame a tremendous effort by Winchester QB Liam Fitzpatrick as a failed two point conversion with three minutes left was the difference in Lexington’s 28-27 win. Ninth ranked King Phillip remained unbeaten at 5-0 with a win over Franklin and tenth ranked St. John’s Shrewsbury beat crosstown rival Shrewsbury in a close 38-35 game. Outside the top ten, big performances by Falmouth QB Nick Couhig (two throwing TDs and one rushing TD in the first half) and a five touchdown performance (four throwing and one rushing) by Newton North QB John Grady keeps those two teams in top positions within their respective divisions. Jared Martino kept Malden’s playoff hopes alive by factoring in seven touchdowns (four throwing and three rushing TDs) in a triple overtime 48-42 victory against Lowell. QB Mike Yarin led St. John’s Prep over rival conference foe Catholic Memorial with a four touchdown performance. Yale commit Blake Hill led Milford over perennial power Foxboro with four touchdowns in a 41-14 final score. In arguably the most impressive stat line of the year, Brendan Costa threw for 180 yards and three TDs, ran for 336 yards and three TDs and picked off four passes on defense against Seekonk. Derek Landry manufactured four touchdowns (three rushing and one fumble return) as Billerica remained undefeated. Running back Jaason Lopez had three rushing touchdowns as the Marblehead Magicians beat previously undefeated Beverly. Devaun Ford of Mashpee had one rushing and two receiving touchdowns as they remain undefeated with a victory over Hull. ITHMA power rankings will be out later this week.
In D1 North you have a huge match-up between Central Catholic and Haverhill tonight for the top spot in that division while second place Lexington has a relatively easy path to an undefeated regular season. EJ Perry and Andover are still in the hunt at 2-2 but they still have to face Haverhill and Central Catholic in their regular season play. In D1 South BC High still has to play at St. John’s Prep and at Xaverian but should be the favorite to remain undefeated and hold on to the top ranking. If Xaverian beats Brockton this weekend and St. John’s Prep beats Catholic Memorial it could come down to BC High, Xaverian and potentially Newton North should they beat Braintree tonight. Weymouth can help themselves in the rankings if they are able to beat a good Needham squad tonight. So our top three in D1 North would be Lexington, Central Catholic and Andover while in D1 South the top three would be BC High, Xaverian and Newton North. This is a critical weekend for teams to create some separation so it will be interesting to see the results as they come in over the next two days.
Duxbury over Silver Lake…. QB Maimaron had 5 TDs in a 42-3 rout last year.
Xaverian over Brockton…. Xav D too much for the Boxers.
Bridgewater Raynham over Dartmouth…. BR won on the road 16-13 last year so they win a close one at home.
Central Catholic over Haverhill…. Maintain top spot in D1 North.
Dennis Yarmouth over Falmouth…. DY D shuts down Falmouth offense.
Hanover over Scituate….. Hanover offense too much like last year’s 49-7 win.
St. John’s Prep over Catholic Memorial….. SJP defense keeps CM in check.
Newton North over Braintree….. Tigers try to stay close to BC High in the D1 South standings.
Marblehead over Beverly….. Marblehead won a close one 28-21 on the road last year so they win a competitive game at home.
