Grafton’s Ifeatu Melifonwu is currently a Syracuse commit but Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh has been making a late push to get him to flip and to go to school in Ann Arbor. Melifonwu is a 6’3″ and 190 pound defensive back that many think Michigan has projected out as a top college safety. Harbaugh recently attended Melifonwu’s Grafton basketball game and spoke to him for a few minutes following the game. This special attention must have worked because Melifonwu will be taking a visit to Michigan in the near future and there is a very good chance that Michigan will offer him a scholarship. It doesn’t hurt that Melifonwu’s older brother Obi Melifonwu is currently projected as a top six safety prospect in this year’s NFL draft having been a top player at UConn. This is an excellent example of a head coach going the extra mile for a player they think can come in and help their team. If Harbaugh gets Melifonwu to flip from Syracuse it will be a big win for Michigan and you have to give Harbaugh credit for getting out to that basketball game and getting Melifonwu to commit to a campus visit. A big part of recruiting is showing a sincere interest in the athlete and his family and it can often lead to a prospect choosing one school over another.
