Ryan Betro (Class of 2018) of Lawrence Academy Talks With ITHMA (2/12/17)…

Ryan Betro is a 6’4″ and 280 pound defensive lineman who plays for Coach Paul Zukauskas at Lawrence Academy in Groton. Betro was recently offered a college football scholarship from Syracuse University and he would be a great addition for Coach Dino Babers and the Orange as they implement their “Orange is the New Fast” style of play up in the Carrier Dome. This scholarship offer came following Betro’s recent visit to the Syracuse campus where he was able to tour the facilities and meet all of the coaches. Betro told us that he had an awesome visit that exceeded his own expectations and this campus visit was followed by an out of the blue Sunday phone call from Coach Zukauskas informing him of the Syracuse offer. Needless to say, Betro and his family were ecstatic upon hearing this big news. According to Betro he only started playing football in the eighth grade so even though he already dominates on the defensive line he could have even more upside potential given he is still relatively new to the game. Betro transferred to Lawrence Academy from Walpole High School as he liked the coaching staff and the location as well as the high level of academic and athletic competition that the ISL provides. When he is not playing football or basketball at Lawrence Academy he can be found working out in the weight room or hanging out with friends and family. While already holding offers from Syracuse and Sacred Heart, Betro has also received interest from Boston College, Wake Forest, Coastal Carolina, Old Dominion, Army, Rhode Island, Columbia, Yale, Bryant and the University of Connecticut. We wouldn’t be surprised to see many more college offers come his way over the next several months. Wherever Ryan Betro ends up some college will be getting a top prospect from Massachusetts who should represent our state very well at the next level.
