2017 Super 8 Baseball Committee – Teams That Were On The Bubble (6/8/2017)….

Let’s take a look at some of the teams that did not make it in to the 2017 Super 8 Baseball field this year and see if any of these teams have made a further case for themselves with their state tournament play. The other day we saw Lynn Classical lose to Marblehead 6-2 in the Division 2 North quarterfinals eliminating the Rams from the tournament. Taconic beat Pope Francis 1-0 in extra innings and will now play top seed Westfield today at 3:30 PM in the Western Mass Division 1 Tournament semi-finals. Andover beat Malden Catholic 6-5 and will now play Lexington today at 4:00 PM in the Division 1 North semi-final. Methuen beat Chelmsford 1-0 and will now play Lowell today at 7:00 PM in the other Division 1 North semi-final.

Update: Andover lost to Lexington 7-1, Methuen lost to Lowell 3-1 and Taconic beat Westfield 9-3 in games played today.

So Lynn Classical is out of the Division 2 tournament with their loss while Taconic, Andover and Methuen all came away with close victories to continue on in their brackets. Obviously this is all retrospective but it does help the committee evaluate their decision making process looking ahead to next year by seeing how the teams on this year’s bubble went on to play in the state tournament field.
